# Configure a Meter Replacement

## Configure Meter Replacement

A **meter can fail** or be **replaced with a new one**. If you only adopt the new meter reading, already recorded values could be **lost**, which leads to **data gaps and calculation errors**.

To prevent this, BuildingPro Suites offers the option to **configure an offset**—either **manually** or through **automatic detection**.

## Set an Offset for a Meter

1. **Open the asset details** of the affected asset.
2. **Click on the attribute** for which the offset should be configured **\[A]**.
3. **Activate the offset function \[B].**
4. **Choose one of the following methods:**
   * **Enter value manually:** The offset value is permanently **added to all new measured values**.
   * **Activate automatic calculation:** BuildingPro Suites automatically detects when a meter has been replaced.
     * If the new value drops by **more than 10%**, an offset is automatically set.
     * Instead of continuing to count with the new value, the previous value remains as the **basis**.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.buildings.ability.abb/collection/academy/configure-a-meter-replacement.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
