### Step 2: The Template Configuration

<figure><img src="https://2013058394-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FOqGnkz52o2zVUsEGEZGk%2Fuploads%2FT18gsVbnzrVw26x8DAbH%2FGroup%20623.png?alt=media&amp;token=c18f5768-6cab-4182-a972-6e95ea1cd2be" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

<table data-header-hidden data-full-width="true"><thead><tr><th width="68.20001220703125"></th><th width="195.5999755859375"></th><th></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>[E1]</strong></td><td>Host</td><td>Name of the asset type</td></tr><tr><td><strong>[E2]</strong></td><td>Map icon</td><td>Symbol with which the asset is displayed on the map.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>[E3]</strong></td><td>Manufacturer</td><td>Name of the manufacturer of the asset type.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>[E4]</strong></td><td>Asset type translations</td><td>Translations of the asset type into different languages.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>[E5]</strong></td><td>Time to inactivity</td><td>Activate to determine whether the asset should be <a href="/collection/mandatory-base/assets/asset-status-active-inactive-unmonitored-assets.md">↗ monitored for inactivity.</a></td></tr><tr><td><strong>[E6]</strong></td><td>Bookable</td><td>Activates the booking function for the asset: <a href="/collection/mandatory-base/assets/asset-modeling-create-templates.md">-> Activate Bookable</a></td></tr><tr><td><strong>[E7]</strong></td><td>Tracker</td><td>Marks the asset as a tracker for location tracking: <a href="/collection/mandatory-base/platform-core/asset-core/create-a-new-template.md#activate-tracker-function">-> Activate Tracker function</a></td></tr></tbody></table>

{% hint style="danger" %}
The **Name** **\[1]** of an asset template can no longer be changed after the template has been created!
{% endhint %}

### Activate Bookable

After you have created an asset template, you can enable it for bookings to make it available for the [Booking App](/collection/mandatory-base/platform-core/connect-hub/edge-app-marketplace-for-plug-ins-and-extentions/apps/booking.md). This process allows you to use assets based on this template for reservations and bookings.

### Activate Booking Function

1. **Open Template Configuration**: Go to **Engineering -> Asset Modeling** and select the desired asset template. Then click on the pencil icon ![](https://3489494878-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F9GvUpaatBiReR43XFSMg%2Fuploads%2F5sXaIhVhBODiR8SGbebA%2Fimage.png?alt=media\&token=ebf27714-0b4a-4db9-b7c6-0281626b2453) to edit the template's configuration.
2. **Activate Booking Option**: In the template's configuration settings, you will find the **"Bookable"** option. Activate this option to enable the asset template for bookings. ![](https://3489494878-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F9GvUpaatBiReR43XFSMg%2Fuploads%2FgTqEcpZRmufu2OMEVt0a%2Fimage.png?alt=media\&token=8566133c-a92d-4d27-8755-35512ca8f8b4)
   * **Automatically Added Attributes**: As soon as the booking option is activated, two special attributes are automatically added to the template:
     * **occupancy**: This attribute indicates how many people are currently in the asset.
     * **bookable**: This attribute indicates whether the asset is currently bookable or has already been booked.
3. **Integration with the Booking App**: If the Booking App is installed, it automatically recognizes the `occupancy` and `bookable` attributes. This makes the asset based on this template reservable via the Booking App.

### Activate Tracker Function

You can register assets as trackers in the system to then connect them with a [Localino Tracker](/collection/mandatory-base/platform-core/connect-hub/edge-app-marketplace-for-plug-ins-and-extentions/apps/localino.md) and display them in the [Tracking Widget](/collection/platform/live-cockpit/widgets/predefined-widgets/asset-tracking.md).

### Step 1: Open Template Configuration

1. **Navigate to the Configuration:** Go to **Engineering** -> **Asset Modeling** and select the desired asset template.
2. **Edit the Template:** Click on the *pencil icon* ![](https://3489494878-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F9GvUpaatBiReR43XFSMg%2Fuploads%2F5sXaIhVhBODiR8SGbebA%2Fimage.png?alt=media\&token=ebf27714-0b4a-4db9-b7c6-0281626b2453) to edit the template's configuration.

### Step 2: Activate Tracker Option

1. **Find the Tracker Option:** In the template's configuration settings, you will find the **Tracker** option. ![](https://3489494878-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F9GvUpaatBiReR43XFSMg%2Fuploads%2Fd9Ljv9DClCWBUMgfzZzB%2Fimage.png?alt=media\&token=550c1789-b3b3-4571-9561-39f899d351b7)
2. **Activate Option:** Activate this option to register the asset as a tracker in the system. <img src="https://3489494878-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F9GvUpaatBiReR43XFSMg%2Fuploads%2FyUEuopYDWuLR8BVmFxU5%2Fimage.png?alt=media&#x26;token=dce1c859-3cc4-4858-81b9-44b40b31ecf0" alt="" data-size="original">

***

### Step 3: Add Attributes to the Asset Template

Attributes define the template's datapoints, such as temperature measurements or operating states.

Follow [Add and Configure Attributes](/collection/mandatory-base/assets/asset-modeling-create-templates/configure-attributes.md) to create an attribute and configure its **General**, **Conversions**, **Title language**, **Pipeline & AR**, and **Value mapping** settings on one page.

After saving the attributes, continue with Step 4 to add characteristics.

***

### Step 4: Add Characteristics to the Asset Template

Asset characteristics make it possible to store standardized information directly in an asset template. These values can be adopted when an asset is created and later adjusted individually.

<figure><img src="https://2013058394-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FOqGnkz52o2zVUsEGEZGk%2Fuploads%2FZXPu50mvS8jiHO5OlaHl%2FGroup%20625.png?alt=media&amp;token=50709b07-3e15-4d60-9e32-23561301ed67" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

1. Click on the **edit pencil \[H]** to configure the **Asset Characteristics** for the asset template.\
   ▷ The configuration view for asset characteristics opens.
2. Click on **\[H1]** to create a new category for asset characteristics.\
   ▷ A window will open for entering the name of the category.
3. In **\[H2]**, select one of the previously created [↗ **Characteristics Templates**](/collection/mandatory-base/assets/asset-modeling-create-templates/create-a-new-asset-characteristic-template.md).\
   ▷ The predefined attributes and settings of the selected category will be adopted.
4. In **\[H3]**, you can set default values for the asset characteristics.\
   ▷ These values are automatically adopted in every asset that is based on this template.\
   ▷ The values can be adjusted later in the individual assets.
5. Click on **\[H4]** to further customize the [↗ **Characteristics Template**](/collection/mandatory-base/platform-core/asset-core/create-a-new-asset-characteristic-template.md).\
   ▷ This opens the same configuration view as under **Step 4** (see G elements).
6. Click on **\[H5]** to remove a category from the asset template.\
   ▷ The associated characteristics will also be removed.
7. Click on **\[H6]** Save to complete the configuration.

{% hint style="success" %}
Congratulations, you have successfully created an asset type with all its properties.
{% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.buildings.ability.abb/collection/mandatory-base/assets/asset-modeling-create-templates/create-a-new-template.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
